Academic Affairs Vice Chancellery
The Vice Chancellery for Academic Affairs is one of the principal administrative and academic bodies of Kandahar University and has been an integral part of the University's organizational structure since its establishment. It is responsible for planning, managing, and enhancing the University's academic programs and activities in terms of both quality and quantity.
Following the establishment of Kandahar University in 1369 (1990–1991) with the founding of the Faculty of Agriculture, the Vice Chancellery for Academic Affairs was created to ensure the effective planning, implementation, and management of the University's academic programs. Today, it is entrusted with one of the University's strategic objectives and, after the Office of the Chancellor, holds primary responsibility for the academic leadership and administration of the University in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
The functions of the Vice Chancellery for Academic Affairs are stipulated in Article 20, Paragraph 3 of the Higher Education Law, while its duties and authorities are defined in Article 11 of the Regulation on the Activities of Academic Staff Members in Higher Education Institutions. Accordingly, the Vice Chancellery conducts its activities within this legal framework.
The Vice Chancellery is committed to strengthening the academic capacity of faculty members through professional development initiatives, organizing scientific conferences and seminars, and fostering academic and research collaborations with reputable national and international higher education institutions. It also facilitates opportunities for faculty members to benefit from academic exchange and professional experience.
Furthermore, the Vice Chancellery oversees postgraduate education, including specialization, master's, and doctoral programs; curriculum development and revision; quality assurance; the nomination and monitoring of faculty members for academic programs both within Afghanistan and abroad; the University's Academic Council; academic appointments and promotions; the supervision of faculty academic activities and relevant committees; the establishment of new academic programs in response to institutional and societal needs; the preparation of annual reports on the implementation of the University's Strategic Plan; and the monitoring of the University's scholarship committees.
